{ Dreaming of a blue Christmas }

Being on the water has inspired me to do most of my main decorating with Blue accents. Once a lover of all thing sage green with accents of off white and burgundy... I am excited for the change! Considering all of my Christmas decor is now burgundy and gold, I will have to gradually make the change over. Above are some yummy pics of inspiration I thought I'd share!
What colors do decorate with? When do normally hunt for that perfect tree? This year we acquired ours early. The day was so nice and un-seasonably warm for NY. We get an abundance snow here, so getting our tree when it's snowing is not necessary! :-) We usually have snow until May sometime early April! Eeesh!
This year, since we are down sizing our living space. We are not going to go crazy buying stuff for the kids that they won't have any room for or most likely play with for a few days and forget about it. I have it on my heart to buy a little less for them, yet include them more in the "giving" side of Christmas. Letting them help decide who we buy little surprise gifts for, help brainstorm for gift ideas, make handmade gifts or cookies, let them tape the packages and decide which pretty ribbon we use... I know that they will be blessed more by really understanding the reason for the season. Seeing loved ones open packages that they have a part in will warm their hearts and bless their little souls :-)
I would love to hear what colors others decorate with and any tree hunting traditions that you may want to share!
Warmest Blessings,
Amy

{ My new front yard }

It has been so very beautiful here, with the leaves changing color. When the lake is really calm the leaves float down slowly and land on the Lake and just sit there.... like a one of a kind mosaic.... no two are ever alike.

{ There could never be... }

{ A more beautiful you... }
We spend so much time thinking we aren't worthy because of our outer beauty.... We were created with different talents and gifts - we all have a reason and a purpose... each as important as the next. I think this video will minister to all of us BEAUTIFUL women out there :-)

{ Seasons of Change }

Life certainly has it's ups and downs... There are so many seasons in ones life. A season of rest, of work, a season of joy or grief and sorrow, a season of a new life, a season of prosperity. A season of dreams, of change and transition. As I live in New York - I often appreciate the change in seasons. Each one bring a new beauty of it's own. A new smell in the air. A new adventure in the midst.
We have had many "seasons" this year in our family... Most recently we have had a season of grief and a season of change. We have moved into a new home that we are in the process of completely renovating. It is smaller than our previous home, yet we enjoy our new front yard... which resides a huge lake. What a new season and adventure for us.... Once this renovation is done, we will be able to fully appreciate God's gift of a wonderful body of water, Lake Ontario...
I pray that as everyone who reads this blog that is going through "season", that the grace that you have is sufficient to carry through each of lives changes victoriously.
Warmest Blessings,
Amy Sutter

{ God Bless the USA }

I'm Proud To Be An American
Written By Lee Greenwood
If tomorrow all the things were gone I'd worked for all my life,
And I had to start again with just my children and my wife,
I'd thank my lucky stars to be living here today,
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can't take that away.
I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
From the lakes of Minnesota to the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas from sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston and New York to L.A.,
There's pride in every American heart and it's time we stand and say:
I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
I will be posting a fabulous papier drawing next week sponsored by Nice and Easy Antiques! Have a safe and blessed Holiday

{ Featured Artist - Whim & Fancy Designs }

{Words from the Artist}

First and foremost I must start by commenting on how humbled I am that one would want to read about my creations and my personal endeavors that brought me to where I am today. I am surrounded by and amongst many talented artists and designers in which I find myself on a constant self exploration and evolvement of my own creations or craft as some may call it.

Crepe paper to some may seem like colored tissue like paper. But you see it is more than that. It is a nostalgic tool that takes you back to your fifth birthday party, where you can barely remember who was in attendance. But the decorations, streamers and serpentine that were all strewn about have such clarity in your mind; you can almost reach out and touch them. Maybe the honeycomb decorations that were leftover on the dining room table bring a smile to your face. It's all coming back to you, isn't it? That is how I feel when I create with crepe, it makes me feel at home and for that reason alone, the ideas and feelings flow within me to create what I do. Many of my crepe creations come to me in the middle of the night, when I think most of our ideas do!

I am always on creative overdrive. It is my everyday challenge to find a different method or technique for the use of crepe paper, streamer and colored tissue paper. I am blessed that God has given me a very unusual gift and that is the gift of self-visualization. I believe that if you can see it in your mind and create that very idea into a tangible object with your own two hands, you have a gift. Mind you I don't take it for granted, it must be utilized as much as possible, and constantly bringing to life what you see in your mind. I hope that what I do brings joy and contentment to people's lives and takes them back to that place once long ago when there were no cares in the world and a few rolls of streamer meant it was our day to shine and celebrate till twilight came upon us and the last guest went home.

I am ever so fortunate to be in two current publication just released this month, Stampinton & Company Premier Issue of Apron*ology Vol.1. I am also a featured artist In Lisa Kettell's "Altered Art Circus" Techniques for journals, paper dolls, art cards, and assemblages. I will also be teaching two different Regalo Por Mi workshops this spring at ZNE Convenzione 2009 in Pleasanton, CA.

{ In loving memory }

This is "Nana" with my son Gaven about 2.5 years ago, right before she was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. I miss her so much and I wanted to share with my blog friends how amazing she was on so many levels. This is almost therapy for me~a part of the grieving process. I hope that you will be inspired by what I am about to write... we only have so many turns around this earth until we reach our last hour. What do you want to remembered for?
My husband and I have lost several family members over the years to cancer and heart disease. My Father and Mother in law passed in 2001 and 2002. When we had our first child, Aunt Holly (aka Nana and Mom) asked if she could be the grandmother because she and he husband Denny were unable to have children years ago. Therefore this would give them a new beginning, a chance to have grandchildren. Of course we said YES! It was truly an answered prayer. When we went through our losses I often prayed that my children would not feel the void that I did.
Holly and Denny truly blessed our lives. They were the best grandparents that one could ever ask for. We had a relationship that we didn't take for granted, it was truly a gift from above. She was my mom, my best friend, a "voice" in my life that I looked to at so many times in my life. Her wisdom was priceless, she knew how to make sense of everything. She truly, deeply loved my children and spent quality, fruitful time with each one of them. It was such gift for such a short time.
After a 2.5 year battle of a brain tumor, hip replacement, shoulder replacement and breast cancer. The cancer came back and within three weeks this February she was gone. She loved Jesus with all of her heart and I know she is in Heaven and would not come back if she had the choice!! Her life touched so many.
Even in her darkest hour she would know how to encourage you and make you feel special. After talking on the phone with her you felt exhorted and blessed with kindness and love. She never had an ill word to speak of anyone and always found greatness in everyone. She was merciful of all and to be in her presence was like you were the only one who mattered. She was so giving, graceful and classy. She was so talented in many ways and would share her talent with all who admired. Never selfish even when she had every right to be. Her funeral consisted of approximately 700-800 people. All who had been graced with her presence...and would never be the same after knowing her.
So as I have been going through this trial - I had to ask myself once again. What do I want out of life? What do I want to be known of remembered for? Do I want to be remembered for making tags and cards OR do I want to use my talent for good. Pondering all of this thoroughly, I did decide to close down my website for now. I have a lot of soul searching to do. I am praying as to where my life should lead, what path shall I go down and in the mean time... I aspire to be more like Nana. Someone who I am so grateful to have known and loved. I want to touch peoples lives, there are so many hurting out there. Right in our own neighborhood, work and in our family or even our own home. Love goes a long way, a kind word, a compliment or phone call. If you see a need or know of a need that someone has and you have the capability to fill it, then do so! They will remember that forever and will do the same for another down the road.
What do you want to be remembered for? Your life is just a moment on this earth. Every morning when you wake be thankful that you are taking another breath and start each day wondering who's life I can change next?
Thank you for taking the time to listen to my heart.
The warmest of blessings,
Amy

{ It took me away! }

It was so unexpected...one day I was here and the next, not! I was taken! Down a winding road with no return. I just kept getting deeper and deeper in with no way out, no end in sight. I was tagged and poked, so many questions were asked and answered of me. My past, present and future was written from wall-to-wall! The terror, I fought my way out, I made that leap - Yikes, 2 hours later and my laundry is still 3 feet deep!

FACEBOOK! If you know it - you know what I am taking about! LOL

I would love some new FACEBOOK friends from the fabulous blogging community! Just put your blog address in the friend request so that I will know who you are and where you are from!

{ Featured Artist - Catherine Haugland }

{ About the Artist }
My name is Catherine Haugland, and I'm the owner of Avalon Rose Design which is a graphic/website design business that specializes in vintage-inspired designs. I fell into what I do completely and utterly by accident, however, it is so fulfilling and rewarding. I love creating, and since glitter and glue are not my thing, digital design has become my passion. My love for all things vintage has found its way into my work from the very beginning. Whether it's an old postcard, rusty key, aged linen, roses, buttons, license plate, chipped clock, or a vintage bottle cap (all of which have been part of my work somewhere along the line), I love working with images of old things. Most of my images come from my vast collection of vintage ephemera and items, some I scan and some I photograph. My software programs of choice are Adobe's Photoshop & Dreamweaver, both of which I'm quite familiar with after working with them on a daily basis for so long.

I get my inspiration from a number of places and things...an old magazine ad, my daughter's quilt, vintage postcards, the strange pattern in the carpeting in the local theater, sometimes even a story can spark something. I generally start out with a general idea of where I want to go with a design, but it never ends up looking like I originally planned it to. The creative process surprises me every time. It's the design aspect of what I do that I'm the most passionate about, but the technical side of things in my line of business is just as important. Writing the code that will encompass and support a design is something I do every day, and it's a never-ending learning process. My designs are featured on over a hundred websites, mainly for boutique, home décor, and antiques businesses. I've designed several print ads for businesses that are featured in many major publications, some designs of mine have been featured in Artful Blogging, and my portfolio was featured on http://www.webdesignerwall.com/. I also have two other businesses, one featuring my jewelry designs, and the other vintage graphics available for download. All of my sites have recently been combined into one, The Avalon Rose Collection.

What a treat to start off the new year! A feature of my favorite graphic design artist!! I have been a fan of Cathy's since 2005 when I bought a Parisian eBay template. I find inspiration is her website designs... each and every visit to her website certainly appeased my vintage "aged" appetite. I eventually bought some of her graphics for sale and introduced them into some of my tags and cards. For my 30th birthday my Hubby bought me one of Cathy's premade one of a kind templates for my website - the best gift ever!

Cathy is by far, in my opinion, at the top of the elite web designers with a vintage flair. Each design is a true test of elegant whimsy. Her eye for balance is impeccable - a true inspiration for aspiring designers using graphics or paper. Each of her web creations are a piece of art as so many business owners have chosen to represent themselves on the world wide web using her creations.
Please take a moment and view her fabulous website above featuring web designs, eclectic jewelry and vintage graphics.
Have a fabulous beginning of a new year!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

{ There's no place like home! }

Well, we had a wonderful time! It wasn't as warm as I was expecting... in the 60's. A cold front came through beacause of a hurricane, but the day we travelled it was in the 70's. There was not a cloud in the sky and it was snowing in Sryacuse NY, so I was thankful for the 60's! Julie left a comment on my last post saying she had visions of a "Griswold family Vacation". He, he! We had moments of similarity, let's just say we will fly next time, lol! I will post more once I get the pics uploaded to my laptop.
I have a fabulous customer I thought I would share with ya'll. Her name is Kelli France. Yes, I would love to have that last name too! She is amazingly talented with the camera, here is her website if you would like to take a peak http://www.francephotography.com/index2.php. This is her second custom order with me for some Merci Beaucoup cards and matching tags for her clients as she gives them their pictures. What a great way to display her art and keep customers coming back for more!

Looking for a unique christmas gift? Why not put together a fabulous french themed basket for your chic friends or family! These tags, cards and prints would look great in it!
Last, yet certainly not least. The sweet Jeruselem from Storia home just emailed me to inform us of a giving away she is hosting - a holiday banner of your choice by leaving a comment here. I own one of her banners, so trust me, you don't want to miss out on this one!
Have a fabulous day and stay warm... brrr!
